Buying a mobile phone is almost like buying your first home for many people. It is a tedious process of balancing your funds against functionality and a general wow factor. Some companies, especially those with internationally known brand names, justify their extravagant prices through equally extravagant marketing budgets. But really, I believe it is the mere weight of their brand names that dictates the prices on their devices today. Don't less popular brands have to put in just as much, if not greater, efforts in their marketing in order to get their name out there? Not to mention that they do this on tighter budgets.
However, the extravagant prices of these popular brands are not subject to a complaint. In fact, it gives less popular brands that produce equally high quality devices at cheaper, more affordable prices the opportunity to shine and grab a thick slice of the pie.
